Roll-fed DTF vs Sheet-fed DTF
Roll printers run continuous film for volume. Sheet printers are simpler and waste less on short runs.

|---|---|---|
| Film format | Roll, 30–60 cm wide | A3 / A4 sheets |
| Continuous run | Yes | No, reload each sheet |
| Film waste | Higher at start/end of roll | Lower for one-offs |
| Throughput | 40–80 shirts/day | 15–30 shirts/day |
| Price | $4,000–$9,000 | $1,500–$4,000 |
| Best for | Daily production, long designs | Small shops, sampling |
Choose Roll-fed DTF if
You print every day and regularly run designs taller than 19 inch.
Choose Sheet-fed DTF if
You print under 20 shirts a day or mostly standard-size graphics.
The short answer
Roll pays off above roughly 25 shirts a day. Below that, sheet is cheaper and easier to learn.

Other comparisons
DTF vs Sublimation
Sublimation only bonds to polyester. DTF bonds to cotton, blends and dark fabrics — which is why most t-shirt shops start with DTF.
DTF vs HTV (heat transfer vinyl)
HTV is faster for one-color names and numbers. DTF wins on full-color photos, gradients and fabric range.
DTF vs DTG (direct to garment)
DTG prints directly onto the shirt and feels like nothing. DTF prints on film first, which makes it cheaper to start and more forgiving on blends.
DTF vs Screen printing
Screen printing is cheapest per unit above ~100 pieces. DTF is cheaper below that because there is no screen setup.
