DTF on Hoodies

DTF Printing on Hoodies

Hoodies have thick seams and uneven surfaces — DTF flexes with the fabric where vinyl cracks.

Substrates: Cotton fleece, poly fleece, French terry

Settings that work

Temperature150–155 °C
Press time12–18 seconds
PressureMedium, 4–5 bar
PeelCold peel
Wash careInside out, 30–40 °C, 20–25 washes

Settings are a starting point, not gospel. Film batches, ink lots and press calibration all shift the ideal number — always pull-test a sample before a paid run.

What goes wrong, and how to fix it

ProblemFix
Transfer lifts at the pocket seamThe seam is a pressure dead zone. Use a pressing pillow or press the seam area twice.
Design feels like a plastic patchFleece needs 12–18 s at lower temp, not a blast at 170 °C. Slow and even beats hot and fast.
Cracking across the chestThe garment stretched during pressing. Let it cool flat before moving it.

Good fit

  • Front chest and back prints on fleece
  • Zip hoodies where the zipper blocks screen printing

Where it fails

  • Pile fleece with deep texture (sherpa, teddy)

What to buy for hoodies

Weekly volumeMachine classWhy
Under 20 shirts a weekA4 or A3 desktop + heat pressA4 covers logos and kids sizes; A3 adds full adult backs. Both run on a normal desk.
20–60 shirts a weekA3 (33 cm) + shaker + ovenThis is the volume where hand powdering becomes the bottleneck, not the printer.
60+ shirts a week60 cm dual head + 60 cm ovenGang sheets and a matched oven width. Two heads cut print time roughly in half.

Volume bands assume one operator and a standard 38 × 38 cm press. Verify with a sample before committing to a machine size.
